A Photographer’s Journey

photography by Cookie Segelstein

about the artist Cookie Segelstein has been shooting nature photos for over 20 years. Although a professional violinist, she has travelled the world not only with her fiddle, but with her camera gear to catch the elusive shots as well as the plentiful. Specializing in birds and wildlife, standing in a swamp waiting for some bird action is her happy place.

The show at St. Albans features photos from her travels to Ecuador, Costa Rica, South Africa, Fairbanks as well as right here in California. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, her love of photography started with her father, who gave her a Leica M3 when she was in high school. Her brother David built a dark room in the basement, and they were often huddled over trays of developer watching images appear, a truly family affair.

She is cotreasurer of the Berkeley Camera Club and in her music life, on the board of Calliope!
